Drive with us Saturday the 15th of June and enjoy what I think is the prettiest town in Kentucky and back roads driving too! We leave the Starbucks parking lot at 12605 Taylorsville Road near I-265 at 10:45 A.M. (If you are arriving on I-265, take the Taylorsville Road exit and head West a little about 2 blocks the Starbucks will be on the right just past the Kroger etc. There is an entrance road just past the Starbucks store.) Of course you can just proceed out Taylorsville Road from J-Town and the Starbucks will be on your left.

On June 15th 2013 the Bluegrass Miata Club will drive to Danville Kentucky for lunch via back roads. We will drive through Taylorsville, continue on to Springfield, and tour around downtown Danville before lunch. Then after lunch people can return on your own via US -127 & I-64.

In Danville we will have lunch at the Bluegrass Pizza & Pub at 235 W. Main Street. Molly and I ate there today and loved the atmosphere & the sandwiches. She had a Philly Cheese Steak & I had a Sicilian sandwich with lots of good greasy Italian meats in it. We also saw several lunchers enjoy what looked to be wonderful Pizzas. I believe a couple would have trouble spending over $20 for lunch (exclusive of alcohol). But they do have a full bar if you want a cool brew or something else.

Please note the departure time from the Starbucks is 10:45 a.m. This will put us into Danville around 1:00 p.m. and we will avoid the lunch-time rush.

Should you choose to have a great lunch (or dinner) with someone you really want to treat, I can’t suggest a better spot than the Holly Hill Inn in Midway Kentucky.

A few Saturdays ago Molly and I took friends for a wonderful three course lunch in Midway Kentucky. The Holly Hill Inn has been around for at least 200 years in one form or another. It was a toll plaza, horse switch, & overnight rest stop on the old Lexington Turnpike. This was a “cordwood road” where you literally rode your carriage across trunks of downed trees, hence the name “cordwood road.” It may have been a rough ride but apparently it was better than getting stuck in the mud! After that time the place evolved into a bar, a hotel (brothel?), & a Bed & Breakfast. The current owner/chef is Ouita Michel who is a regular presenter at the Beard House & is a recognized chef pretty much throughout the US. During much of the year Ouita offers in addition to her evening dinner service a Prix Fixe Lunch. Right now it is served on Thursday through Saturday. But times and dates do change on a regular basis.

Reservations are always accepted and probably required for any meal any time of the day. Having made our reservation, we showed up on time and were presented with a Prix Fixe three course menu.

For $18.00 we could choose between two starters, a bisque and a salad.

The entrees were Filet of Salmon/rice pilaf, Chicken Tiropita in filo pastry with greens, feta, lemon sauce, & rice pilaf.

Roast Pork Loin/ peach rhubarb compote & cheese grits.

Lamb Lasagna with greens, ricotta, gouda, mornay sauce and pasta.

Or for the vegetarians they had Springs Greens Tart which was described as a buttery pastry filled with Swiss chard, baby beet & turnip greens with Mornay sauce with spring vegetables.

For dessert we were spoiled for choice. Would you prefer Panna Cotta with Burbon Honey Syrup & Pecan Bar, or perhaps Hummingbird Cake with Cinnamon Creme Anglaise, Peach Melba Bread Pudding with Whit Chocolate Bourbon Sauce, or finally Strawberry Trifle with local strawberries, Vanilla Custard and Whipped Cream.

Obviously the menu changes with the seasons & depending on what is fresh locally. However, over a period of several years we have discovered whatever is on the menu any day is wonderful! Yes they also serve starters. We’ve never needed them nor could we have found room for them. And they have a full bar which we always enjoy. But I don’t know of any place in the US which presents this much quality for $18.00 a plate!

Contact the Holly Hill Inn at hollyhillinn.com, or for reservations they demand a phone call at 859-846-4732. If you get the voice mail, just provide the date, time, number, etc. you desire and you will receive a call back usually within 24 hours.

The Holly Hill Inn is located at 426 N. Winter Street Midway Kentucky. If you are unfamiliar with the area the easiest way to find the Holly Hill Inn is to take I-64 East to the Midway (Us-62) exit. Take the exit and turn right. At the Stop Sign adjacent a filling station look straight ahead. You should see a tall brick building sticking out from the trees. That building is the Holly Hill Inn. If you don’t spot the Inn just turn Right At Stop then Left At The Next Intersection, which is Winter Street. The Holly Hill Inn & parking are the first place you will find on the left.

Don’t forget to get reservations. Don’t plan on having room for dinner after lunch. But whether you enjoy lunch or dinner there, I’d be shocked if you didn’t think you received tremendous value for your menu price.

This car has 93,000 careful highway miles (summer commuter car), no collision history, clean carfax. Recent $3,000 restoration specialist repaint (have itemized receipt). Unmolested, never raced or abused. full synthetic oil with filter changed every 3,000 miles since day 1.

With the exception of a single small stone chip in the windshield that is out of your line of vision and hard to find without my help, this car is like new.

The vehicle has a factory turbo/performance/appearance package that stickered @ $7,000. Looking for $10,900 but will consider all reasonable offers, garaged in Maysville, kentucky about an hour away from you. Pictures available.

Hello,

I live in Lexington and am in the market for a ’01-03 LS 5SPD manual Miata. It may go back to the days I worked as an assistant service manager at an auto dealer but before I take the leap into buying any car I’m not familiar with I like to educate myself as much as possible about what to look for beyond the obvious.

I’m contacting you today to try to get connected with someone who is a font of knowledge about Miatas of the years I’m interested in purchasing so I can bombard them with questions and also get advice and information beyond even my concerns.

I can be reached at (859) 361-3943 or, reply to this message.

Thanks,
Gary Shaffer

Many of us were concerned where to get an inexpensive Southern Italian food fix in Louisville when we heard the Come Back Inn was closing. Happily, we were wrong!

What has happened is the previous owners retired. They are great people so we're happy for them! But we're also very happy that one of the staff bought the business and has retained virtually the entire staff & menu! For those of us who like to get Bang For Our Buck in Italian food, our resource on Swan Street is still there. You won't find white tablecloths at Come Back. What you will find is a friendly, bustling, happy, & often loud atmosphere where the empahasis is on drinks and reasonably priced Southern Italian cooking like someone's Mom actually made. Is this really Southern Italian cooking? Well it's Southern enough they make and sell bottles of their own "Red Sauce" in several specialty grocery stores!

However, you can find a few "white" offers on the Come Back menu as well. Molly & I sometimes split an "Italian Hot Brown" and we always split their huge salads. If you think you know a Hot Brown as a piece of turkey on toast, which might or might not have any taste, try this one for a change of pace. And yes, you really either want to split this order with someone or get a "Go Box!" I can't imagine ever eating the whole order myself while there.

The Come Back Inn is also open again for lunch so you can eat early then go home and have your nap. In fact if you can convince your spouse to go there for lunch before going shopping, you might even sneak out of the trip to all the antique stores nearby! After you see the size of the dishes turned out here you will probably understand the need for a nap.

The Come Back Inn (Italian-American Pub) is located at 909 Swan Street in Louisville. Phone: 502-627-1777

"New Hours" are:

Lunch

Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Dinner

Tuesday-Saturday 4:30p.p. until 10:00 p.m.

If you haven't been there, give it a try! And yes I need to add a note: Come Back Inn is closed on Sundays & Mondays.
