If you like Indian food, try the SHALIMAR
We in Louisville are very lucky to have so many varied cultures represented in restaurants. For those who like curry and other Indian influenced foods, bang for the buck, the Shalimar restaurant on Hurstbourne Lane is as good as it gets!
While sited in a nondescript strip shopping center shared with LIQUOR BARN, when you come through the front door of SHALIMAR the mood changes. You can picture yourself in some exotic site on the other side of the world. The tablecloths are white, people are dressed at least "business casual", the whole staff is obviously of middle eastern descent, and the aromas are from another world. You may see several customers seated when you arrive and still seated when you leave. Many people here take their time and enjoy their meal, but if you want to get in, eat, and quickly get out, you can do that too.
No, this place won't cost you a car payment! In fact, the "House Suggestion" sells for $15.95 for meat eaters or $14.95 in the vegetarian version. This truly is a full meal that has wonderful tastes of several foods including dessert & Indian Tea.
If you like mild, spicy, hot, or HOT, be sure to tell the staff your preference & they will prepare whatever you order to suit. I love the Lamb cooked in a Tandori pot with curry sauce on the side. But if you aren't sure about heat with this dish, make sure you ask for it milder! They also have tons of chicken, vegetarian, & about every other type of Indian food choices. Again, you probably would spend more for dinner at a pizza place than here. Don't know what to choose? Tell your server and you'll be quizzed about your tastes or favorites and the meal will be tailored to suit.
A full bar with modestly priced wines & several imported beers is also part of the good deal. Remember they are next door to LIQUOR BARN, and have shockingly low markups.
Shalimar opens daily for lunch from 11:30-2:30 then reopens for dinner at 5:30 P.M. They are closed Sundays
