Mid Ohio Vintage Grand Prix
Those who haven't been to a Vintage Grand Prix have missed the chance to see old Trans Am, Stock, Formula, & other Racing cars of most all eras on one track in one weekend.
The annual Vintage Grand Prix weekend at Mid Ohio will be held on the weekend of June 25-27 this year. This is a great place for car fans, of whatever era, to mingle and see old and not so old cars race against others from their era on a beautiful over two mile roadcourse. Spectators are free to travel almost anywhere inside and outside the whole track throughout the weekend.
Every year several car clubs including Corvette, Jaguar, Porsche, Viper, & SCCA have "corrals" where they park their cars amongst other of their membership. The corrals are great way to see various years and models of a particular brand in one spot. It's also fun to watch a brand of car racing on the track and then compare it to the "like model" of street car parked in a corral. Most racers are much more like street cars than any you will see in NASCAR or most any current racing series.
Every year Mid Ohio has a "featured marque" and this year Datsun is the featured marque. Remember Datsun is the brand that brought us the "Fairlady" roadsters, 240 etc.etc. Zs, the Maxima & the PL-510, and more? From day one in this country Datsun supported racing the same as Mazda does now so there should be several of their Trans Am cars there as well as many Datsuns built for other racing series. Remember, just because Datsun is the featured marque, there will be tons of street and racing cars from virtually all marquees there as well.
Located near Lexington Ohio and just a very few miles from I-75, Mid Ohio is easy to get to. They are also close to many places to eat and/or stay in several towns around including Mansfield. They also allow camping, motor homes, etc. on the property for racers and spectators.
I have been to Mid Ohio several times and consider it to be one of the two most beautiful race tracks in the US. The other is Road America in Wisconsin which is a much longer trip from Ky. I suggest everyone in the Bluegrass Miata Club go to the Mid Ohio Website and consider making the trip to the Vintage Grand Prix in June. I'll surely be there!
