Some Indiana Covered Bridges
A 1 1/2 day trip through east central Indiana to 11 covered bridges
Here is an overnight trip in east central Indiana to visit some covered bridges.
1. Starting from Louisville take US 42 to Bedford, Kentucky. Then take 421 N. to Madison and then Versailles. In Versailles take 50 E. a short distance to the Versailles State Park, on left, where the Busching Bridge is located. The Busching Bridge is 85 miles from Louisville.

Therefore if you start in Louisville between nine and 9:30 AM you will arrive in Aurora around lunchtime. Continue to Hardinsburg where you will then take State Road 1 N. to Guilford. The Guilford Bridge is located right off 1 in a small park. It is 33 miles to this bridge, from the Busching Bridge.
3. Continue on State Road 1 N. to Interstate 74. Take Interstate 74 E. and exit at exit number 169. Take 52 E. approximately 1 mile and then turn left onto Johnson Fork road, look closely it is easy to miss. Continue on Johnson Fork road north through the small community of Rockdale, the Snow Hill Bridge is on the left at Snow Hill Road. This bridge is 17 miles from the previous bridge.
4. Return south on Johnson Fork road and just passed Rockdale take a right onto New Trenton Road. Continue on New Trenton Road till it reaches US 52, turn right/North. (Just as you are leaving the small community of New Trenton there is a neat furniture store on the right) continue north on US 52 to Metamora, approximately 25 miles from the previous bridge. On the east side of Metamora you will find the White Water Canal Aqueduct Bridge, this covered bridge carries the canal over a small stream.
5. Out of Metamora continued north on 52 until you reach State Road 121 take a right/north on 121 to Connersville. Once in Connersville take State Road 1 N. to 28th street, the Longwood Bridge is located in Roberts Park on the right.

7. Return on East 150 N to North Ft. Wayne Road. Take a right on North Ft. Wayne Road to East 300 N. take a right on East 300 N. and the Norris Ford Bridge is approximately 1 mile down the road.

8. If you are planning to spend the night in Rushville there is a nice Comfort Inn located there, that would allow you to visit the Offutt’s Bridge after dinner. To reach Offutt’s Bridge take 52 W. out of Rushville, then a right onto County Road 450 W. Turn left onto W. 300 N., after a short distance turn right onto North Offutt’s Bridge Road. If you are returning to Rushville for the night you can continue on Offutt’s Bridge Rd. North until you reach County Road 400 N. take a right hand turn and after miles of cornfields take a right/south on State Rd. 3 to the Comfort Inn. (One can have dinner at the Park Restaurant located south of W 11th St. on N Jackson St, three blocks west of state road 3.) This is approximately 77 miles from Metamora.

9. To reach the Forsyth Bridge take State Road 3 S. out of Rushville to County Road W. 600 S. turn right/west on W. 600 S. as the road turns left it becomes south 325W and then another right turn and you are on W650 S., the bridge is on W650 S. This bridge is 13 miles from Rushville
10. The Moscow Bridge was destroyed by a tornado in 2008 but is planned to be rebuilt. To reach this site take S. 500 W. till you reach W Skating Rink road turn right/ West. The site for the bridge can be seen where the previous bridge pylons are visible in the creek.
11. Continue straight on S 500 W as the road turns into the W. 900 S. Take W 900 S. all the way to State Road 3 where you will turn right/south. Continue on State Road 3 until you reach Interstate 74, go east on Interstate 74 until exit 143. At exit 143 take County Road 850 E, North where you will turn right/East on E. Base Road. Turn left onto Enochsburg Road. The Stockheughter Bridge is located on Enochsburg Road.
12. That is 11 bridges so if you return to I74 continue east to Exit 148, Batesville. If it’s lunch time there are several places to eat in Batesville. Head south on state road 129 all the way to 50. Take 50 West into Versailles where you will go South on 421. This will take you into Madison which is fun to walk around, plus if you spent enough time here you can have dinner a good seafood restaurant on the east side of town, (I forget the name, but ask anyone will know what you are taking about). You can head back the way you came on 42 or pick up I71 South.
Great job!
Great Pics! I will have to try and remember to carry a camera with me.
By the way, I still remember the great time we had doing the Covered Bridges Drive together at the Indy M.M.G. Good to see you both are still on the covered bridges trails.
I think the restaurant you mean is the Key West Shrimp House in Madison. Click here for their post under Good Eats.
